Milford man performs with Revivalists this weekend in Fairfield
Fairfield Theatre Company will welcome a taste of the big easy on March 29 with the Revivalists, a band that includes Milford resident George Gekas.
Anyone who’s ever been to a Bruce Springsteen show will testify that his concerts are rather like a church revival. It’s Springsteen’s attitude that inspired the name for The Revivalists, a six-piece rock n’ soul outfit that hails from New Orleans that is considered by many to be the next breakout band.
The horn driven, New Orleans funk band defies categorization, according to music writers. Having taken elements of rock, soul, country, roots and folk, and then mixed it in a pot, the band has been dishing this spicy musical jambalaya all over the country.
The Revivalists songs and styles are influenced by the wide array of great musicians that hale from New Orleans, which include the Radiators, Galactic and Anders Osborne. Between lead singer David Shaw’s thoughtful lyrics which give the Revivalist a rich palette to draw upon and Milford’s own George Gekas’s heavy bass lines, fans in attendance just might feel as though they were down in the French quarter during Mardi Gras.
Doors will open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. The theater is located at 70 Sanford Street, Fairfield.
Tickets are $17 in advance, and $22 at the door. Call the box office at 203-259-1036 or reserve online at fairfieldtheatre.org.
