Milford launches Small Business Month to spotlight 'heartbeat of downtown'

The business members of the Downtown Milford Business Association (DMBA) will present an inaugural event — Small Business Month — during November, including a Small Business Saturday shopping event.

The goal of Downtown Milford’s Small Business Month is to show support to the small businesses that make the community unique.

“Small business is the heartbeat of Downtown Milford,” organizers said in a press release.

The event will include informative workshops the first four Mondays in November in the Library Community Room from 5:30 to 7 p.m., hosted by The Milford Public Library and marketing partner Score of Greater Bridgeport.

Workshop topics will include services/resources, restaurants, arts/entertainment and retail.

Title sponsor Patriot Bank will be on hand to provide financial/banking information at each event. Workshops are free, open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

A ‘Meet and Greet Open House’ will be hosted by Milford Arts Center (MAC) on Thursday, Nov. 5, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. There will be a wine tasting provided by Wines and More.  Refreshments will be provided by Patriot Bank. The event is free and open to the public.

Downtown Milford businesses will also be celebrating Small Business Saturday on Nov. 28 with special offers and happenings.

“Behind every small business there is a story worth knowing,” organizers said.

During Small Business Month, the DMBA will be highlighting stories from the community.

In addition, the DMBA webmaster and Downtown Champion member Jamie Rude of Humanitects, Inc. has awarded the organization a Pay-It-Forward Grant. As Technology Sponsor, Humanitects will perform upgrades to the organization’s website, as well as provide a showcase page for Small Business Month.

The event is presented through the support of Title Sponsor Patriot Bank.
