Milford Police: Barricade situation cleared
One man was taken into custody after barricading himself inside a Milford residence early last Friday morning, police said.
Officers were called to a residence on West Avenue at 4:39 a.m. after a woman was assaulted in a domestic violence incident and left the condo for a neighbor’s residence seeking help, according to Officer Mike DeVito. Police arrived to find the woman with some facial soft tissue injuries and took her to Milford Hospital and tried to make contact with the man still in the condo.
The man would not come out of the residence and police were only able to speak with him briefly before the call was disconnected, DeVito said.
“We know he’s in there and we’re fairly certain that he’s alone…and we’re told by the female victim that he has long guns in the residence,” DeVito said.
Adjacent neighbors were evacuated as a precaution and police were still trying to peacefully negotiate with the man as of 8:45 a.m., DeVito said.
Around 11 a.m., Milford Police posted on Twitter that officers were clearing from the area and that the man was taken into custody without incident.
