Milford Hospital nurses honored with Nightingale Award
Three Milford Hospital nurses were selected to be recipients of the 2018 Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing. Bobbi Allen, Beth Belenchia, and Maria Lacad were honored for their professional achievements at an awards dinner and program held at Anthony’s Ocean View in New Haven on May 3.
Each of the honorees was nominated by their peers. Criteria for the award is demonstrated clinical excellence and having “gone above and beyond the call” in their daily professional duties.
During her six years at Milford Hospital, Allen has focused her career on caring for the most critically ill patients in the hospital’s Medical Surgical / Telemetry floor prior to transitioning to the Intensive Care Unit. According to her nomination, “Bobbi has solid, critical thinking skills and demonstrates sound decision making. She is an active member of the Shared Governance Council and has participated in several nursing initiatives to implement evidence based knowledge into practice.”
Belenchia is an administrative supervisor on the evening and night shifts. She is outstanding in her leadership role, lending support and guidance to nurses in all areas of the hospital. According to her nomination “despite multiple demands, Beth gives her full and careful consideration to each issue placed before her and follows any concern through to closure. She is a role model for caring and respectful communication.”
Lacad has worked as a medical-surgical and telemetry nurse at Milford Hospital for more than 11 years. According to her nomination “ Maria is known for not only addressing her patient’s physical needs, but also their emotional needs. She has been observed taking time out of a busy shift to sit at the patient bedside and provide a calm and reassuring presence and a level of compassion and comfort needed by her patients.”
