Lucia Chapter #25, Order of the Eastern Star will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday Jan. 13 in the Milford Masonic Lodge Hall 59 Broad Street under the direction of Worthy Matron Sarah Prokop.

At this meeting a class of candidates will be initiated. All members of Lucia Chapter are urged to attend this important meeting. Visiting Eastern Star members are always welcome.

Refreshments will be served in the banquet hall after the meeting.

Royal Arch masons

Milford Chapter #49 Royal Arch Masons will hold its Monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday Jan. 11 in the Milford Masonic Lodge Hall, 59 Broad Street, Milford under the direction of the High Priest Kenneth I Greenhill.

There will be a dinner served at 6:30 for those members who make reservations with Bruce Rumford. During the meeting new applications will be accepted and balloted upon.

Club Genealogy Workshops

The Irish Heritage Society of Milford is sponsoring a four part series on Irish Genealogy in the program room of the Milford Public Library. The first session “How to Begin Your Family Search” will be held on Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. The session will last about 2 ½ hrs with refreshments being served.

Learn about Flower Shows and how to prepare for them at the Milford Garden Club meeting, Tuesday, April 12, 1:15 p.m. at the Freelove Baldwin Stow DAR building. Butterflies

The Milford Garden Club invites you to enjoy a beautiful powerpoint presentation of "Butterflies & Their Gardens" given by John Himmelman. Himmelman is an author, illustrator, naturalist, cofounder Connecticut Butterfly Association. He has written numerous books and will bring some for signing. Fitness and dance

The Milford Recreation Department announces its winter Fitness & Wellness and Dance and Fun Workout sessions for adults with instructor Shelia Frankel beginning on Monday, Jan. 3. The classes are available to both residents and non-residents.

The Fitness & Wellness classes are intended for women who are interested in gently sculpting and re-shaping their bodies while gaining added relaxation, stress reduction and flexibility through light stretching and toning techniques in a fun and friendly atmosphere. All specialized movements are designed to improve your overall well-being and reduce significant inches.

Dance & Fun Workout classes are geared towards dancing your way to fitness while having fun. All classes will give you a full body workout while developing the movements of a dancer. Students will learn techniques and steps as you reduce inches.

The classes will run for 10 weeks and cost $54 for residents and $59 for non-residents. The Fitness & Wellness class is offered on Monday, Thursday and Friday while the Dance & Fun Workout class is available Tuesday and Friday.

Zumba

The Milford Recreation Department announces its fall Zumba Fitness sessions for adults with instructor Lynn Baglini beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 5. The classes are available to both residents and non-residents.

Zumba is a Latin inspired, dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and International music and dance movements, which create a dynamic, exciting and effective fitness system. Zumba means to “move fast and have fun.” The class format combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body in an aerobic/fitness fashion to achieve a unique blended balance of cardio and muscle-toning benefits.

Zumba is designed for everyone. Participants of any level or background can start right away. The class is available to anyone 15 years or older. Zumba’s basic steps formula makes it easy for every one.

The first class is on Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. beginning on Jan. 5. The second class is on Thursday from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm and will start on January 6. Both classes will be held at the Margaret Egan Center Gymnasium and run for 10 weeks. The cost for either class is $60 for residents and $65 for non-residents.

Women's Support Group

Female Framework and Foundation: Building our supports and strengthening our environment.

Topics will include how to balance all of the many roles, how to handle the emotions when these roles become overwhelming and most importantly how to take care of ourselves. The class takes place Wednesdays 7 to 8 p.m.

Bottle drive

The Jonathan Law High School Marching Band and Color Guard holds a redeemable can and bottle drive the third Saturday of the month 9 to 11 a.m. in the schools student parking lot at 20 Lansdale Ave.

Lions club

The Milford Lions Club meets on the first and third Monday of every month at Chips Restaurant, 321 Boston Post Rd., Orange at 7 p.m.

INDOOR YOUTH TENNIS INSTRUCTION

The Milford Recreation Department is currently accepting registrations for its winter indoor tennis lessons on a first come first serve basis at the Recreation office in the Parsons Complex. The youth tennis lessons will be held in the Parsons Gymnasium.

Instructor Dave Kardas and his staff will offer instruction for students 3 to 8 years old and classes will be held on Fridays. The 3 to 5 year-old Pee Wee group will be held from 3 to 3:45 p.m. and cost $50 a session. The 6-8 year-old juniors will play from 4 to 5 p.m. and cost $90 a session. There is a $5 fee for all non-residents.

Rent-A-Kid Program

Residents of Milford looking for assistance with a job within their home may “rent-a-kid” from Milford Youth and Family Services. The Rent-A-Kid program targets youth between the ages of 12 to 17 interested in temporary, part-time job jobs such as yard work, raking, gardening, snow shoveling, childcare and other needs.

Sean Macauley, MFT, Program Coordinator of Milford Youth and Family Services, has compiled a list of young people interested in participating in the program. If you would like more information on this program and on how to rent a kid, please contact Sean Macauley at 783-3253.

Portrait painting group

Space is still available for the adult portrait painting group. This is not a class but an opportunity to meet people with a passion for painting. The group meets Thursday 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Margaret Egan Center in Room 136. Cost of each session is $3 with Models provided.

Actor students accepted

Milford actor’s workshop is currently accepting new students for the spring acting programs. Classes are for ages 8 to 15 and will be held at the Margaret Egan Center on Mondays from 4:30 to 6 p.m., $20 per session. The program features monologue and commercial technique, improve and scene study, all emphasizing self-esteem building in oral presentation.
