Man hit by car Monday dies of injuries

A man hit by a car on Bridgeport Avenue in Devon Monday has died from the injuries he sustained.

According to police, Kevin Tanski, 53, of Milford, died on Tuesday, a day after the accident.

Brenda Tanski, 51, remains in critical condition.

Another family member, Jenny Tanski, 21, has been released from the hospital, and a fourth member of the family was not injured in the accident, police said.

The accident occurred around 11 a.m. Monday on Bridgeport Avenue near Cowles Street.

A preliminary investigation revealed that four pedestrians were walking along the shoulder of the roadway when they were hit by a vehicle driven by James Dorso, 31, of Milford, police said.

The pedestrians and vehicle were all traveling eastbound in the same direction when the accident occurred.

One local woman who was at a house near the scene Monday said it was horrific.

“We heard a big bang and two girls screaming, and we went outside and saw a man lying half on the sidewalk and half on the road.”

The witness, who did not want to be named, said a woman was lying in the middle of the road.

Two girls were crying and calling, “Dad, dad,” the witness said.

The witness said she saw an SUV at the scene, which appeared to be the car that struck the pedestrians.

Bridgeport Avenue was closed for a period of time during the investigation but was open within a few hours.

Police are recommending that pedestrians avoid walking along roadways due to the inclement weather conditions.

“If necessary, pedestrians should walk against the direction of traffic so they can see oncoming traffic and stay close to the edge of the roadway,” police spokesman Jeff Nielsen said in a news release.

The Milford Police Traffic Division is investigating the accident and is asking anyone with information regarding the accident to call 203-783-4749 or email dsharoh@ci.milford.ct.us.
