Man dies after being struck by train at Stratford Metro-North station

A man who was on the tracks at the Stratford Metro-North train station has died after being struck by a train just after noon Friday.

Nancy Gamerman, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, said a trespasser was struck at 12:09 p.m. by a train that left New York's Grand Central Terminal at 10:34 a.m. and was heading for New Haven. The man died as a result of the collision, Gamerman said. It's unclear as to why the man was on the tracks.

Trains were stopped from entering the Stratford station for some time as MTA Police investigated. The train involved in the incident was stuck at the station during the investigation.

At least one train bound for Grand Central Terminal was canceled. The Stratford station had one available track for trains heading in both directions. Passengers on the Waterbury line train had to wait almost 30 minutes at the Devon Transfer for a southbound train to get off at Stratford and points south.
