Man charged with building bombs in basement

The Milford Police Department took custody of Jason Bayard, 39, of 67 Victory Drive Oct. 1 on a warrant for allegedly building bombs in the basement of his house.

On August 22, a family member of Bayard’s called the Milford Police Department after they found items in the basement area of 67 Victory Drive in Milford that were believed to be homemade pipe bombs.

Milford officers entered the residence and confirmed that there were improvised explosive devices in the house, police said.

The State Police Bomb Unit was contacted for assistance and they responded and carefully removed the explosive devices from the residence and transported the items to a safe blast site where they were detonated.

“The components used to manufacture and construct the prototype pipe bombs were all store bought items that the arrested subject admitted to experimenting with,” police said in a press release.

Bayard is charged with the following: Manufacturing of Bombs, Illegal Possession of Explosives, Illegal Storage of Explosives. He was held on $75,000 bond, which he was unable to post.
