MAC Film Series ‘The Arts and Oscar’
MILFORD —The Milford Arts Council presents the last two movies in its new 2014 Film Series at the Center for the Arts, 40 Railroad Ave. leading up to their 2nd Annual Red Carpet Gala on March 2:
• “Anatomy of a Murder,” Feb. 13, 7:30 p.m., hosted by Joe Meyers of the CT Post. A riveting courtroom drama of rape and premeditated murder is brought to life with an all-star cast in the suspenseful and highly-acclaimed “Anatomy Of A Murder.” Nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture in 1959. The film pits a humble small-town lawyer (James Stewart) against a hard-headed big city prosecutor (George C. Scott). Produced and directed by the renowned Otto Preminger, the film features a brilliant score by Duke Ellington. Packed with drama, passion and intrigue, “Anatomy of A Murder” is a cinematic masterpiece that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
• “It Happened One Night,” Feb. 27, 7:30 p.m. Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert team up for laughs as mismatched lovers in this 1934 screwball comedy classic. Spoiled Ellie Andrews (Colbert) escapes from her millionaire father (Walter Connolly), who wants to stop her from marrying a worthless playboy. En route to New York, Ellie gets involved with an out-of-work newsman, Peter Warne (Gable). When their bus breaks down, the bickering couple set off on a madcap hitchhiking expedition. Directed by Frank Capra, It Happened One Night was the first movie to be honored with all 5 major Oscars: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.
