• The Woodbridge Rotary Club recently installed Cynthia Gibbons of Woodbridge as its newest member. Gibbons is national director of finance home health/hospice and post-acute for Tenet Healthcare of Dallas. She is chairwoman of the Woodbridge Zoning Board of Appeals.

• Arielle Smith-Watts, a sophomore at Bard College at Simon’s Rock, has earned a place on the Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester. Smith-Watts, 17, of Milford, attended Oviedo High School, in Florida, before leaving to enter college after 10th grade.

• Dana Grindall, of Orange, in the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Human Ecology, earned Dean’s High Honors for the fall semester of the 2016-2017 academic year.

• Amanda Portoff of Milford is one of 19 student-athletes on the 2017 Kutztown University softball team.

• Ashley Hennequin, of Milford, was named to the Dean’s List at Delaware Valley University for the fall 2016 semester.

• Envision Kindness, a Connecticut nonprofit, announced that Jonathan Law High School, Milford, students Abby Williamson, Basima Karzoun, Tia DiBlase and Lexi Fisk won Overall Popular Choice in the second annual Envision Kindness Student Film Contest for their film “It Only Takes One Person.” Teacher: Christopher Kulenych.

A prize of $100 will be awarded to the school.

The contest challenged college, high school and middle school students across the state to make short films using kindness as the central theme.

Forty films were received. Winners were selected by a group of actors, filmmakers, producers, directors and journalists. Winning films can be seen on the Envision Kindness YouTube channel or at http://bit.ly/2kmwvax

“This contest was a rewarding experience for our kids. We were able to use the PSA to promote kindness in a fun, creative, meaningful way which had an impact on our entire school,” said Christopher Kulenych, Jonathan Law High School English and journalism teacher, adviser to The Advocate and Eagle Eye News, and head girls’ tennis.

• Maria LaViola of Morgan Stanley was sworn in by Trish Pearson Jan. 27 at the Rotary Club of Orange weekly luncheon. She joins Nick Feigl of Geico Insurance as the club’s newest members.

• Hamden Hall Country Day School will send 11 of its Upper School students to the All-State Music Festival after having qualified for the Honor Choir and Band, including Akash Jyothish of Milford. • Seventh-graders at Amity Middle School in Orange participated in “A Musical Tour through Latin America” with Orquesta Afinke. Students learned about rhythms, instrumentation, and musical genres. Band leader Herminio Planas, who is principal of Black Rock School in Bridgeport, and fellow musicians, emphasized the importance of teamwork and education.

• Katherine D. Boynton of Orange will participate in a St. Lawrence University off-campus study abroad program during the spring 2017 semester. Boynton is a member of the class of 2017 and is majoring in biology. Boynton graduated from Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall. Boynton is participating in St. Lawrence University’s spring off-campus program in Denmark.

• Sydney Mursko of Milford and Courtney Beecher of Milford made the Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester at DeSales University.
