Live Friday: Trinity Catholic at Stamford boys basketball

A pair of city rivals will be in the spotlight as the Stamford Black Knights take on the Trinity Catholic Crusaders on Friday, Jan. 22, and you can watch the game live on the HAN Network starting at 7 p.m.

You can watch the live game stream on HAN.Network, and all the HAN Network affiliate websites or in the video player below:

Both teams are FCIAC playoff contenders, with the Knights ranking near the top of the league standings with records of 4-1 in the league and 7-2 overall, and the Crusaders a little behind that pace at 2-2 in the league and 5-3 overall.

Stamford has been winning since the start of the season. It’s one loss came at the hands of Brien McMahon, 60-53 last Friday, but the Knights bounced back to beat Darien 53-42 on Tuesday.

Stamford’s other FCIAC wins have come against New Canaan 52-35, Staples 40-37, and Norwalk 39-35. The Stamford-Norwalk game was carried by the HAN Network on Jan. 12.

Senior co-captain and three-year starter Jay DeVito has played the starring role for the Knights this season, and is the team’s leading scorer. Senior co-captain Steffan Harding, a 6-1 forward, and senior point guard Yan Carlos Marte are also weapons for Stamford.

Trinity has been on a bit of a roller coaster ride, splitting its last six games since opening the winter with two wins. The Crusaders will be looking to rebound from a 52-45 loss to the Westhill Vikings on Tuesday, as they take on their two city foes this week.

Trinity’s two FCIAC wins have come against Norwalk 76-64, and New Canaan 52-45, and its other league loss was against Fairfield Warde 72-69.

The Crusaders are young and inexperienced compared to past Trinity squads, but have the talent to be playoff contenders.

They feature several standouts, including  6-foot-2 junior guard Jon Lyons, a top scoring threat who missed Tuesday’s game against Westhill. Having Lyons back in the lineup would be a big boost for the Crusaders’ chances.

Trinity has also been getting big performances from a pair of sophomores: Dimitry Moise and Cantavio Dutreil. Dutreil is an HAN/FCIAC Athlete of the Week nominee after posting double-doubles in wins over Pomperaug and New Canaan last week.

The Crusaders are captained by senior forwards Johnny Somers and Anthony Lombardi.
