Library Friends offer volunteer opportunities
Residents who made New Year’s resolutions to volunteer in the community have a variety of options, from helping out Milford Hospital to joining one of the many service organizations that exist in Milford.
One more to consider is the Friends of the Milford Library, which recently announced that it is seeking new volunteers.
The Friends of Milford Library is a nonprofit volunteer organization that sustains the programs and activities of the Milford Public Library that are not supported in the city budget.
Here are some of the programs and the volunteer jobs that are open:
Railroad station kiosk
and Little Libraries
Volunteers will liaison with city authorities and design kiosks, construct kiosks and stock them with books. Little Libraries are boxes set up in the community where residents can place and retrieve books to share.
Oral history project
The Friends are looking for volunteers to establish an oral history program, train teens to conduct interviews, find subjects, and coordinate interviews with them. Finally, the volunteers would arrange presentations of the oral history interviews.
Book award project
A volunteer is sought to chair a book award project, liaison with high schools and define qualifications of the project.
· Library book sale table
Someone is needed to accept books one day a week for three hours at the library. The book sale table is a popular library program, offering used books for sale at bargain prices.
The Friends are looking for someone to volunteer to do public relations, design graphics for events and the Web page, write and send out news releases, develop a newsletter, and work on social media projects.
Welcome to Milford
The Friends are looking for volunteers to assemble packets for Milford newcomers. This will mean gathering information and material from organizations and putting it together to deliver to new residents to welcome them to the city.
Volunteers are also needed to plan and coordinate special events at the library.
