Letter: Concerned about losing open space at Stowe site

To the Editor:

Some residents may not be aware that the city of Milford is considering the sale of an historic Victorian barn and beautiful inventoried public open space in the rather densely developed Walnut Beach section. This is the Stowe Farm property at the end of Stowe Avenue. A buyer from Hamden seems to want the entire space and seems unwilling to lease on a trial basis.

The city would be wise to do what Mayor Alberta Jagoe did years ago when the Board of Education decided to sell Point Beach School. Mrs. Jagoe separated the land from the building and today Milford families enjoy the green open space where they kick soccer balls, hit baseballs, pass footballs and even go sledding in more normal winters.
