Letter: Community thanked for generosity
To the Editor:
On behalf of Boys & Girls Village, Inc. Board of Directors and Staff, I want to express my deep gratitude for the overwhelming generosity of the community this Holiday Season. The toys, clothing, blankets, books, bicycles, funds and so much that were donated to our agency was extraordinary. The community united to meet the needs of those less fortunate and generosity and compassion for others out shined concerns over the economy and unemployment. Giving was more important than receiving and a child’s smile became the most sought after gift.
Since 1942, Boys & Girls Village has been one of Connecticut’s leading providers for professional behavioral and psychiatric wrap around care for children at risk. With a full campus in Milford and outpatient clinics in Bridgeport and Waterbury, Boys & Girls Village is a leader in providing services that help children, heal, learn and grow.
The donations and gifts received this Holiday Season and throughout the year directly benefit thousands of at-risk children in Connecticut. Every day children from 50 communities in Connecticut come to Boys & Girls Village seeking refuge, protection, safety, education and counseling. Many will need the care of our highly trained professionals to heal from the devastating effects of trauma, as a result of abuse and neglect. Some may need the care of our sub-acute, live-in facility to prevent a hospitalization. Others will benefit from the opportunity to learn in a small classroom setting at the Charles B. Hayden day school, staffed with teachers and trained behavioral specialists. Boys & Girls Village’s unique therapeutic foster care and adoption services have helped hundreds of children find loving families.
