There is still some heavy, wet snow headed to southwestern Connecticut on the biggest travel day of the year — but not as much as some early forecasts predicted.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for coastal southwestern Connecticut along with northern Fairfield and northern New Haven counties. How close you are to the shore could be the difference between a dusting and nine inches.
Closer to the coast, there will be a mixture of rain, snow and sleet on Wednesday morning, Nov. 26, according to the National Weather Service’s winter weather advisory. That wintry mix is expected to turn to mostly snow by late afternoon — but that could mix in with some rain and sleet into the early evening hours. One to five inches of snow are expected south of the Merritt Parkway.
North of the parkway, the snow accumulation could be four to nine inches, according to the weather service.
A mixture of rain and snow is expected Wednesday morning that should turn to heavy snow by mid-afternoon. Visibilities during the height of the storm could be one-quarter to a half mile.
The winter storm warning is in effect for northern Fairfield and northern New Haven counties from 7 a.m. Wednesday through 1 a.m. on Thanksgiving. For the same period, a winter weather advisory in in effect for the southern portions of Fairfield and New Haven counties.
Thanksgiving could have a high of 38 and low of 25 with a chance of flurries. Friday will be colder but mostly sunny.
