The East Coast Watercross tour is at Walnut Beach this weekend for personal watercraft racing.

Campers have set up tents and campers in the Walnut Beach parking lot, and many participants are staying in local hotels, one participant said.

“The East Coast Watercross tour is THE place on the East Coast to participate in closed course personal watercraft racing sanctioned by the IJSBA (International Jet Sports Boating Association),” according to the group’s website. “East Coast Watercross represents the IJSBA’s ‘Region 8’ which is made up of the following states: Maine, New Hampshire, Delaware, Rhode Island, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland.”

East Coast Watercross hosts six rounds of racing on three separate weekends throughout the summer, with each day making up one round of racing, the website explains.

Rounds 3 and 4 are being held at Walnut Beach. One member said is the second year the event has taken place in Milford.

Participants paid $15 per day to camp at Milford’s Walnut Beach.

On its Facebook page, East Coast Watercross states, “This is a public beach/parking lot/community area, please be respectful of the residents, we would like to return! We are only allowed to park trailers in lot 4... the farthest section from the beach... the town has threatened to tow... please stack them in there!”

One member said he expects Sunday’s racing to start around noon due to the tides.
