Illinois man caught with 28 pounds of heroin

A Chicago man was carrying nearly 28 pounds of heroin when stopped by State Police on the Merritt Parkway Tuesday, May 17.

Jose Adorno, 50, is being held in lieu of a $1 million bond, charged with possession of more than one kilogram of heroin and possession of more than one kilogram of heroin with the intent to sell. His arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday.

Troopers from Troop G stopped a Toyota Camry for a moving violation on the northbound Merritt Parkway around

1:30 Tuesday afternoon. Police said they found 11 packages of suspected heroin inside the vehicle, weighing 12.65

kilograms, or 27 pounds, 14 ounces, with a street value estimated at more than $1 million, according to State Police.

Troopers were assisted by Trumbull Police and a Trumbull Police narcotics detection dog.
