The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch for Fairfield and New Haven counties, with a major nor’easter expected to bring heavy rain to the region late tonight and Tuesday.
The Flood Watch is in effect for Tuesday morning through late Tuesday night, and covers much of the tri-state region. In addition, a Coastal Flood Watch has been issued for towns along Long Island Sound for the same time period.
“Rain will be heavy at times with 2 to 3 inches possible by the time the event ends Tuesday night, with localized higher amounts,” the NWS said.
The slow-moving storm is moving up the Eastern seaboard and will arrive late Monday night, and it should rain all day on Tuesday throughout the region.
Temperatures to rise
The storm also will bring warmer temperatures, but could begin as a wintry mix on late Monday night in some towns, the NWS said. This could include freezing rain and snow as well as rain.
As of 11:30 a.m. Monday, temperatures are in the low 20s in much of Fairfield County.
The storm also will produce strong winds, with wind gusts close to 40 mph possible on Tuesday, according to the NWS.
Rain also is likely on Wednesday, and there is a possibility of some snow on Thursday. Temperatures will remain in the 30s and low 40s during the coming days, the NWS said.
