Health organization honors Slossberg with its first award
State Senator Gayle S. Slossberg (D-Milford) has been honored as the first-ever recipient of the Legislative Action Award from the Health Assistance InterVention Education Network (HAVEN). HAVEN’s primary mission is, “to enhance patient safety by supporting the health and well-being of our Connecticut health professionals,” according to its Web site.
“This award recognizes an elected official who has been instrumental in supporting initiatives that… provide well-being services to health care professionals in Connecticut,” said Maureen Sullivan Dinnan, HAVEN’s executive director. “Your support… resulted in… holding insurance companies accountable when denying or changing rates on health care, disability or liability insurance when an insured has a history of treatment for mental health conditions.”
“You are a true leader in health and well-being for our state,” Dinnan added.
HAVEN is an independent, non-profit corporation funded by associations of health care professionals to provide support and monitoring services for individual members of those associations. If and when a member faces health concerns related to physical or mental illness or an emotional or behavioral disorder, HAVEN provides resources to help.
“I am genuinely delighted by this first-ever recognition from HAVEN — a five-year-old group that does so much to advance good health and well-being among the health care professionals within its member organizations,” Senator Slossberg said. “And it’s been my great pleasure to support HAVEN since its inception not only because of the work it does within the professional community, but also because the end result of its work is higher quality health care for their patients as well.
“I am also very favorably impressed with HAVEN’s continuing education efforts to promote throughout the health care community early warning signs and treatment options for professionals who need assistance,” Slossberg added. “I’m grateful for this award and the motivation it provides to continue helping in this collaborative, ongoing outreach effort.”
