Hairspray star to teach dance class in Milford

Pantochino Productions will bring Broadway performer Marissa Perry, who played Tracy in the original Broadway production of Hairspray, to Downtown Milford to lead its first Master Class on Thursday, Dec. 29 at the Milford Center for the Arts in Downtown Milford.

In Perry’s Hairspray Master Class, students will be taken through dance combinations from the Broadway musical Hairspray.

The class is for students at any level of dance experience.

"Hairspray choreography is all about using your body to express your feelings and character — and this class is a multipurpose learning tool,” said Perry. "I show how to correctly move in accordance with the specific time period (1962) and how to throw ‘dance technique’ out the window when need be.”

Throughout the class, Perry promises to share backstage stories of her Broadway experiences in Hairspray, as well as Sister Act.

“We’re thrilled to have Marissa join us for our very first in a series of Master Classes,” said Pantochino co-producer Bert Bernardi. “She’s talented, funny and full of energy.”

Jimmy Johansmeyer, Pantochino’s other co-producer, added, “The session is a great holiday gift for aspiring actors, dancers or anyone who loves Hairspray."

The two-hour session will be held on Thursday, Dec. 29 beginning at 1 p.m. at the Center for the Arts in Downtown Milford. The class is suggested for ages 12 to adult. Tuition is $50.
