Greenwich man charged with trying to extort money from Milford woman

MILFORD >> A Greenwich man faces extortion-related charges after allegedly threatening a woman to elicit money.

Matthew Mannix, 29, of Riversville Road, was arrested Saturday. According to a news release, police received a complaint at 12:15 p.m. Saturday that a male had sent threatening text messages to a female in an attempt to get money from her.

The text messages were sent in a harassing manner, in which a countdown was initiated for the victim to send the male money or consequences would be had, police said in the release.

The male repeatedly threatened harm on the female if she did not comply.

Mannix is charged with criminal attempt at first-degree larceny by extortion, second-degree threatening and second degree harassment.

Mannix was held on $10,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Milford Superior Court today.
