The West Haven 12U girls’ travel basketball team saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end with a 37-33 loss to Rocky Hill to open the Ulbrich Holiday Tournament in Wallingford.

West Haven tried to open up an early advantage but was limited to leads of 6-2 and 8-4 while Rocky Hill hung tough and did not allow the Westies to run.

In the first half, Molly Cannon scored five of her 10 points and Carmen Rosemond chipped in with four points to give the Westies a 15-11 lead at the break.

With a great defensive effort by Erin Dunne holding Rocky Hill’s best 3-point shooter to just nine points and only one 3-pointer, the Westies pulled ahead 29-22 before Rocky Hill caused back-to-back-to-back turnovers and pulled even at 29.

With the momentum on its side, Rocky Hill held a 33-31 lead but with time running out the Westies could only foul to stop the clock.

On Friday, West Haven received a complete team effort in a 44-25 win over North Branford.

Aryssel Flores led the charge, scoring nine of her game-high 23 points in the first half going 6-of-7 from the free-throw line and dishing out numerous assists to help West Haven take a 20-13 at halftime.

Jada Stokes played excellent defense and had a basket while Cameran Kershner helped control the boards at both ends and scored four points.
