Tax Exemption for Fuel-Efficient Vehicles

At the last Board of Selectmen's meeting, the board unanimously approved an ordinance exempting fuel-efficient vehicles from local property taxes. At this time, our town is the only town in the state that has adopted this exemption.

A fuel-efficient vehicle is any passenger car that has a United States Environmental Protection Agency estimated city gasoline mileage rating of at least 40 miles per gallon purchased after Jan. 1, 2008.

Applications for exemption must be filed annually with the tax assessor's office located at Town Hall. If you have any questions, please contact the tax assessor's office.

Economic Development

Economic development is a continuous living process. As existing businesses leave, new businesses join us. Recently, two new restaurants opened in town: the Ocean Grille and the Bear and Grille. Additionally, two new law firms have opened offices in town: Danilowitz & Associates, which specializes in immigrations law; and, Cohen and Wolf, P.C., which not only serves as our town attorney but also provides a wide=range of legal services to businesses, municipalities and private individuals.

These two firms join the Professional Office Center building located at 657 Orange Center Road, which is undergoing a revitalization in the center of our town.

Budget Development Sessions

The Town, the Orange Board of Education and the Amity Board of Ed are in the process of putting the budgets together for the fiscal year 2008-2009. This process is open to the public to view, either in person or on OGAT, and to participate in. Ultimately, this process will result in the presentation of a budget for the residents of Orange to vote on. Please make every effort to get involved in this process.

Boston Post Road Construction

The State Department of Transportation has pushed back the widening of the Boston Post Road between Racebrook Road and the Milford town line to the summer of 2009. This project includes the widening of the roadway to accommodate two traffic lanes in each direction with a center turn lane.
