Freezing temperatures expected Sunday night into Monday

The National Weather Service issued a weather alert for the southern part of Connecticut, warning of freezing temperatures overnight Sunday into Monday morning.

Parts of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties can expect subfreezing temperatures beginning late Sunday.

The weather service warned that frost and freezing conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, and poses a risk to unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Connecticut residents can expect showers for the rest of Saturday night, into the early morning hours on Sunday.

A cloudy and cool day is expected on Sunday, with a high near 50 degrees, and wind gusts up to 25 mph.

Temperatures will then dip below freezing Sunday night, with patches of frost expected in parts of the state.
