Firefighters ask for help clearing snow from hydrants

Firefighters recently used Facebook to plead for residents to clear snow from around fire hydrants.

“Do your part to help keep your neighborhood safe by clearing hydrants of snow,” a graphic circulated by the Stratford Fire Deparment reads. “A clear path on all four sides makes hydrants easier to locate and operate in an emergency.”

Firefighters recommend clearing a path from the street to the hydrant, then three feet around the hydrant on the remaining three sides. Snow should not be shoveled into the street, firefighters added.

Firefighters also asked residents to park off street where possible to ease access for emergency vehicles, as well as plows trying to clear roadways.
