Fire damages DOT plow trucks, service truck in Winsted
WINSTED, Conn. (AP) — Four Connecticut Department of Transportation trucks, including three dump trucks used to plow snow, have been damaged in a fire.
Department spokesman Kevin Nursick says the fire broke out Friday morning inside a maintenance garage in Winsted, apparently sparked by a generator on a service truck that was being used to charge the battery on one of the plow trucks.
Nursick says the trucks are considered surplus and their loss should have no impact on any cleanup from the season’s first snowstorm, which is forecast for Sunday and Monday.
The department maintains a fleet of more than 630 trucks to help keep the roads clear in bad weather.
