MILFORD — The downtown area will be a fashionable place to be on Sunday, May 16 as the Downtown Business Association hosts its inaugural Spring Soiree from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“I think it’s going to be a fun day,” said association spokeswoman Emily Kate Swet.

The Spring Soiree is a fashion-focused outdoor event that will feature the latest styles from local boutiques and refreshments and desserts from local eateries. It will also feature mini-experiences in each participating business, such as tarot readings, mini-facial LED treatments, organic airbrush face tans and more.

“We are so excited to bring this fresh, fun event to Downtown Milford,” said event director Makayla Silva. “The Spring Soiree showcases the best our boutiques have to offer in a fun and glamorous atmosphere. Everyone is truly excited.”

Association president Tracy Bonosconi said the group hopes to add the Spring Soiree to its annual lineup of events. Swet said the event could become an annual happening, depending on ticket sales and the public reception.

“Our purpose as an organization is to draw attention to the Downtown Milford landscape, in terms of attracting community members, visitors, tourists, as well as offering businesses a chance to show off a little bit and let people see that they are there,” she said.

Tickets for the Spring Soiree are $25, and are available online. Only 100 tickets will be sold, Swet said.

As the state continues to lift COVID-19 restrictions on businesses and outdoor gatherings, Bonosconi said she hoped people would come out and see what downtown had to offer.

“The timing is perfect,” said Bonosconi. “After the year we’ve had, it’s a wonderful way for the community to enjoy a little glamour and support small businesses at the same time.”
