Explosion at Boston Marathon; six Milford runners in race

5:39 PM — Governor Dannel P. Malloy this afternoon released the following statement on the explosions at the Boston Marathon:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Massachusetts during this difficult time.

“Connecticut’s law enforcement officials and emergency responders are in close contact with their counterparts both in Massachusetts and with federal homeland security officials as we continue to receive information about the horrific events in Boston.  We will offer our full support to our neighboring state and assist in any way we can.”

The two large explosions struck near the Boston Marathon finish line on Monday, April 15 just before 3 p.m..

Updated reports from the Boston Police Department confirm three deaths and 141 injuries.

According to the Boston Athletic Association website, six runners from Milford participated in today’s marathon and three were confirmed to have finished the race.

Authorities have said that the explosions were not accidental and were the result of explosive devices, one of which was disarmed prior to exploding.
