Ever think of donating a kidney for transplant?
I just got home from Yale-New Haven Hospital after having a kidney transplant.
There are several people I need to mention that got me this far:
• My DaVita group in New Haven helped me on dialysis for over six years. Dianne made my appointments, Maureen the social worker, Kathy the dietician and Maureen my nurse. She always made time for me. There were times when I thought I was her only patient.
• The transplant team — Dr. Peter Yoo, Dr. William Asch, APRN Joynell Mirasol and others always stopped in to check on me. Day and night they were there.
• The RN and PCA on the 9th floor West. They all worked together 24 hours, 7 days a week. No matter what I needed, they were there. I’d like to name a few of the many that took care of me: Pam, Sammy, Erica, Walter, Jayson, Shayna, Amy, Kelly, Marcine, Arielle, Laura, Novelyn and Estelle. I’m sorry if I forgot a few. Please forgive me. Yale, you should be very proud.
Now I’m on to the next chapter in my life with my donor kidney. There are still lots of people out there waiting for a kidney. Did you ever think of becoming a donor?
