Downtown Milford Farmer's Market opens Saturday
Opening on Saturday, May 31, for its eighth consecutive year, the Downtown Milford Farmer’s Market promises to be bigger and better than ever, organizers said.
The weekly market will run on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Oct. 11 in the Agro Brothers parking lot at 58 River Street in downtown Milford.
Rain or shine, approximately 20 farmers, vendors and special exhibitors will present Connecticut-grown/Connecticut-made edibles, flowers and plants, wearing apparel and crafts.
The market is sponsored by the Downtown Milford Business Association and is under the auspices of the Connecticut State Department of Agriculture.
Vaiuso Farm and Rose’s Berry Farm will supply seasonal fruits, vegetables and plants. Grande Marquis Farm will return with their specialty beef and pork products.
Scratch Baking is on board to offer breads, pastries, and desserts. This year, the market is adding cupcakes from Sweet Cupcasions and gluten-free baked goods from Tasty Good Eats.
Customers can purchase kettle corn to take home or to snack on as they stroll and peruse flowers and gifts, specialty olive oil and vinegar, clothing and accessories for women and teens, hand loomed and knitted wool products, natural soaps and sea glass jewelry.
Market goers will also have access to fresh homemade pasta of their choosing made locally by Angelo Durante of Durante’s Pasta, artisanal cheeses, and seafood from local suppliers.
Everyone is welcome to pre-order these items through Scratch Baking or Villa Gourmet anytime for convenient pickup during markets.
Rounding out the offerings each week, there will be exhibits of renewable energy efficiency systems for homes and businesses, as well as massages and evaluations by Milford’s Chiropractic and Wellness Center.
There will be live music each week, starting with Griff Anthony, a New York City based singer/songwriter/guitarist on opening day.
Birds Over Arkansas, a New Haven based group that plays at Cafe Atlantique, is scheduled.
Milford’s own Glenn Behrle will perform with two groups, The Valiant Hart Band and The Common Nightcrawlers.
Mike Paolucci, a Milford native, will return with his group Dr. Caterwaul’s Cadre of Clairvoyant Claptraps. Other performers include The Four Strings Ukelele Band, The Common Nightcrawlers, the 2014 Connecticut State Troubador. Performer Kristen Graves will close the market on Oct. 11.
Throughout the five months of the market, special entertainment and activities geared for children and families are scheduled. Kids Day will take placed on July 12, sponsored by Duck Duck Goose.
