Despite the arrival of spring last week, a snowstorm is on the way — with the potential for as much as 6 inches of snow on Tuesday into Wednesday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for southern Connecticut for Tuesday and Wednesday, March 25 and 26.
“There is the potential for a significant coastal storm late Tuesday through Wednesday morning,” the NWS said.
“At this time, there is a potential for at least 6 inches of snow,” stated the NWS Hazardous Weather Outlook advisory.
However, the NWS said there is “uncertainty as to the track and strength of the storm,” and “a shift in the track of less than 100 miles in either direction will result in a significant difference in impacts across the area.”
Temperatures will drop
No matter how severe the mid-week storm, temperatures will be dropping in the coming days in the area.
Snow begins Tuesday late afternoon
Here is the NWS forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, when the early spring snowstorm should arrive:
Tuesday — Snow possible, mainly after 4 p.m. Snow most likely at night from 7 p.m. to slightly past midnight. A high of 34 degrees and an overnight low of 27 degrees.
Wednesday — Snow may continue until 7 a.m., with winds picking up during the day and into the overnight. A high of 37 degrees and an overnight low of 18 degrees.
