MILFORD >> The Devon Rotary Club is celebrating its 50 years of service to the community.

A golden anniversary event will be held Aug. 13 at the Walnut Beach Rotary Pavilion, with refreshments and entertainment.

The club’s contributions to the community are as follows:

Donates dictionaries to third-graders. Donates dictionaries to the Literacy Volunteers of Southern CT. Donates books to Literacy Volunteers of Southern CT. Donates $20,000 scholarships to local high school seniors. Participates in the Boys and Girls Club dodgeball. Sponsors Pumpkins on the Pier. Serves monthly lunch at Beth El-Center. Funded renovation of Fannie Beach Community Center, with a new floor, for a total of $5,000.

Also, Supported a Girl Scout Gold Award project. Supported Boy Scout Eagle projects. Built the Devon Rotary Pavilion at Walnut Beach. Rebuilt the flagpole on Milford Green. Restored Liberty Rock and constructed historical park. Stocked the Milford Children’s Trout Derby. Sponsor fishing contest.

Also, Sponsor Harlem Wizards basketball at Law. Holds annual Oktoberfest. Donates hot chocolate and cookies at city tree lighting. Sponsors, participates in St. Patrick’s Parade. Sponsors four high school students with Service Above Self Award. Sponsored Bridges Folks on Spokes. Donated funds to the Youth and Family Sneaker Fund. Supported Boys and Girls Village.

Also, Donated to Get in Touch Foundation. Supported the Haitian Health Foundation. Supported the Rotary Polio Plus Project. Donated to the Gift of Life. Sponsored a Law student to attend RYLA conference. Donated to Michael J. Fox Foundation. Supported the Friends of Milford Library. Donated to Milford Promise. Supported Milford Earth Day. Donated to Law High School Post Prom Committee.

Also, Donated to Foran High School Post Prom Committee. Participated in Leprechaun Leap. Created Devon Rotary Knights Basketball Team. Donated football trophy for the Thanksgiving high school game. Sponsored Lustgarten Foundation 5K. Held the annual Glow Ball Tournament at the Orchards Golf Club. Donated to Milford Celebrates, fireworks display.

Also, Installed cupola at Boys and Girls Village. Installed cupola at Milford Rotary Pavilion at Fowler Field. Furnished Milford Hospital waiting room. Donated van to Beth El Center. Sponsored room at Beth El-Shelter in honor of the Rev. David Angelica. Erected granite tee markers at Orchards Golf Course.

And, Installed scoreboard at Milford Academy field. Awards “Service Above Self Awards” at each high school. Installed flagpole at entrance to Devon.
