City’s recreation department offers chance to burn off stress
In a tough economy and busy times, it is important to stay in shape and have fun now and then. The city’s recreation department offers a number of opportunities, and registration deadlines for these activities are all approaching.
There’s youth tennis for ages 3 to 16, to be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning Sept. 12.
Fall yoga starts Sept. 10, for residents and non-residents.The class will run for 12 weeks and will be at 9:30 a.m. at the Margaret Egan Center. The class will cost $58 for residents and $63 for non-residents.
Volleyball is a great way to meet people and have fun. The Milford Recreation Department has begun team registration for its fall volleyball leagues that are scheduled to begin in early September. Three coed divisions (A, B and C — A is the most competitive) will be offered. The A and B divisions play Monday nights and the C division plays Wednesday nights.
Free play volleyball will begin Thursday, Sept. 6, and will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Parsons Complex Gymnasium. The program is free to Milford residents or league participants; however, participants must fill out a registration form. There’s no commitment, just a chance to play.
Businessman’s basketball workout will take place Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:30 to 1:30 at the Parsons Complex Gymnasium beginning Monday, Sept. 10. The program runs through mid June. This open gym basketball activity is open to men and women who are either Milford residents or employees of Milford businesses.
Free play basketball is yet another chance for residents to take advantage of the recreation department offerings. It will begin Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Parsons Complex Gymnasium. The program is free, but registration is required.
Senior basketball is for people over age 50. Basketball workouts will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:30 to 11:30 in the Parsons Complex Gymnasium beginning on Monday, Sept. 10. Participants will be required to complete a registration form.
Gynmastics for children is offered through Cartwheels Etc., at 551 Anderson Avenue, in participation with the recreation department.
The Milford Recreation Department will begin taking team registration for its New Senior Adult Softball Fall League. The league will play Thursday mornings and the design will be to play doubleheaders. The completed rosters and fees are due by Aug. 22.
The Milford Recreation Department offers these and a host of other opportunities to burn off some stress, and take advantage of some of the things residents’ tax dollars pay for.
