City officials, Devon Rotary honor Martin Luther King Jr. with service
MILFORD >> Milford Mayor Benjamin G. Blake, Superintendent of Schools Elizabeth Feser, and City Clerk Joanne Rohrig, were joined by representatives of various community service groups on Jan. 15 to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and encourage the Milford community to celebrate the holiday weekend with community service.
In the spirit of this call-to-service, Mayor Blake and Dr. Feser joined Devon Rotarians Greyson Schwing, Erika Shea, Howard Sadinski, and Priscilla Lynn at the Rotary’s monthly service date at Beth-El Center, Inc. in Milford, CT. Dr. Feser and the Mayor helped prepare and serve over 50 meals at the soup kitchen. A hearty lunch of lasagna, meatballs, garlic bread and fresh salad, prepared by Lassie’s Restaurant in Milford, was served. Blake also held an impromptu question and answer session with lunch attendees.
Each month local Rotary clubs serve lunch at the Beth-El Center, Inc. The partnership between the Devon and Milford clubs helped serve more than 1,500 meals last year. The Interact Club, which is comprised of students from local Milford High Schools, also participates in these service dates.
Beth-El Center, Inc. serves lunch every weekday at no cost to diners.
