City offices closed Columbus day, schools open

Columbus Day produces a fairly odd phenomenon at the Parsons Complex.

According to one school employee, “half the building is lit and the other half is not.”

City departments at the Parsons Complex and elsewhere in the city are closed because of the Columbus Day holiday. But school is open and therefore the Milford Board of Education offices at the Parsons Complex are staffed today.

Schools used to be closed on Columbus Day, but in recent years the Board of Education amended the calendar to try to compensate for so many snow days.

Even though city departments are closed today, there is still trash pickup.

And City Hall will be open tonight at 7 p.m. for a Board of Education meeting concerning long range plans for the city’s schools.
