About 100 people showed up at Walnut Beach July 4 for a ribbon cutting ceremony at a carousel, which will be at the beach throughout the summer.

The carousel will run Thursday through Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Rides cost $3.

George Marenna of Marenna Amusements was at Walnut Beach Monday waiting for the United Illuminating Co. to connect the carousel to power. During the holiday weekend, it was powered by a generator. Marenna said that was done to get the ride going on time for the grand opening.

Once the ride is connected to UI power, it will be quieter because there will not be any noise from a generator.

"The only thing the neighbors will hear will be the music from the carousel," Marenna said.
