Boy wins President’s Volunteer Service Award
BETHANY >> Alessandro Rivera, 12, a student at Amity Middle School Bethany Campus, has been honored for his exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award, on behalf of President Barack Obama.
Alessandro is the son of Alex and Alison Perfetto-Rivera of Woodbridge.
The award was granted by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country.
Alessandro was nominated last fall by the Amity Middle School Bethany Campus for his volunteer service. He donates toys to Yale-New Haven Hospital’s Toy Closet, has joined in church food and clothing drives, participated in Student Council at his elementary school and has helped organize a sneaker collection.
Last year, he donated a portion of his birthday money to the St. Jude’s Foundation.
