Bossa Nova Project Jan. 21
LiVE @ the MAC concert series presents The Bossa Nova Project with Isabella Mendes who will perform Sunday, Jan. 21 at 4 p.m. at the Milford Center for the Arts, 40 Railroad Avenue, Milford.
The Bossa Nova Project was founded by Brazilian singer-songwriter/pianist, Isabella Mendes, with the intent to bring people together to share happiness through music. The project was inspired by the original Bossa Nova movement which took place during the Brazilian "Golden Era" in the 60’s, when Brazil was booming, culturally, socially and economically. Bossa Nova brought people together through the music. It began as a collaboration between friends and musicians, coming together without pretense or ego but more with a genuine interest in the new music. Musicians such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Nara Leão, Carlos Lyra, João Gilberto and others, would gather at each other's apartments to play and sing songs that celebrated the beach, beauty, "Carioca" life and nature while speaking of love and happiness. The goal of the Bossa Nova Project is to replicate that original intent: to share beautiful music with others in order to bring people together and to bring happiness to the world.
Singer, songwriter, composer, pianist, and educator Isabella Mendes, is quickly becoming one of New Haven and Hartford County’s top Brazilian, jazz, pop, entertainers in the industry. Isabella has earned an impressive list of accomplishments well beyond her years. Mendes has performed with top notch musicians, Jeff Fuller, Joe Carter, Adriano Santos, Itaiguara Brandão, Tim Moran, Paul Lieberman, Ali Ryerson, Ben Bilello, Hernan Yepes, Asher Delerme, George Lesiw, Frank Brocklehurst, Lindsay Artkop, John Tuohy to name a few. Her sound is an eclectic mix of American Jazz Standards, authentic Bossa Nova, Brazilian jazz, with a hint of pop in her original songs. Isabella will be accompanied by Itaiguara Brandao on bass, Adriano Santos on drums, David Cordeiro on guitar and vocals and John Collinge on sax and flute. Isabella Mendes’ expressive, pristine vocals, which can mix a sense of vulnerability with resilience and joy, have become part of her effervescent signature sound in appearances in Connecticut clubs and festivals, along, of course, with her well-honed jazz piano playing, rooted in the knowledge and mastery she derived from her classical studies." ~ Owen McNally, WNPR Jazz Corridor.
