The Orange Players, a community theater, will hold auditions for the musical "The Fantasticks" at the High Plains Community Center, Monday, Jan. 27 and Tuesday, Jan. 28, with callbacks, if necessary, Wednesday, Jan 29.

Those auditioning are asked to bring sheet music in the appropriate key and be prepared to read from the script.

"The Fantasticks," the longest running musical in the world, is a moving tale of young lovers who become disillusioned, only to discover a more mature, meaningful love. It is punctuated by a bountiful series of catchy, memorable songs, many of which have become standards, in particular the melodic "Try to Remember."

All roles in the Orange Players' production are open. Roles include: The Boy (Matt) an innocent young man, baritone/tenor (A to high G); The Girl (Luisa) a romantic idealist, soprano (B to high B); The Narrator (El Gallo) a rakish, handsome gallant, baritone (A flat to high G); The Boy's Father (Hucklebee) former navy man, meticulous gardener, baritone (A to high F sharp); The Girl's Father (Bellomy) a merchant, also a picky gardener, baritone (A to high F sharp); The Actor (Henry) an aging, over-the-top thespian (non-singing); The Man Who Dies (Mortimer) Henry's goofy sidekick (non-singing); The Mute, a speechless presence who watches, acts as the wall, and so on, male or female.
