Arrest made in Milford man’s death
Police charged a city man with first-degree manslaughter after he allegedly killed an acquaintance during a fight at their Anderson Avenue address Sunday night.
Officer Michael Devito said 57-year-old Ricky Garcia was being held in lieu of $250,000 bond to be arraigned Tuesday in the death of 49-year-old Christopher Peckham.
Garcia allegedly beat Peckham to death “with his bare hands and feet,” Devito said.
Both men lived at 583 Anderson Ave, a rental property where a dozen people live — six inside the house and the rest living outside in cars and tents, Devito said.
Peckham and Garcia were involved in a fight at the property Sunday night. No weapon was involved, Devito said.
An autopsy performed Monday at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide, caused by blunt trauma to the upper torso, Devito said.
Peckham suffered several broken ribs and vertebrae and also “severe soft tissue injuries,” Devito said.
The death was reported at 10:01 p.m. Sunday by a person who lives on the property on Anderson Avenue near Quarry Road.
Crystal Crute, a neighbor, said the house owner had a habit of taking people in who were down on their luck.
