A requested 22.7% increase in residential water rates for Aquarion
customers is before the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory
Authority.
A public hearing on the proposal will be held Tuesday, June 18, 6:30
p.m., in Fairfield at Fairfield Independence Hall, 725 Old Post Road.
According to Aquarion, the new rates would add 26 cents a day, on
average, to a local residential household bill. Aquarion says the
increase will help the company to continue to invest in infrastructure
to serve 625,000 residents in 47 state communities.
In March, the company filed an application with PURA for new water
rates that, if approved, would become effective September 2013. The
water company requested an 18.3% increase in water rates in the first
year, as well as increases of 1.8% and 1.9% in the following two years.
The increase may vary by area, according to the company. For more
specific information on rates, customers can contact Aquarion at
203-445-7310.
Customers are also welcome to provide comments on the application at
the public hearing or in writing to PURA at 10 Frankling Square, New
Britain, CT 06051, or by sending an email to
PURA.executivesecretary@ct.gov.
PURA asks that commenters refer to
Docket Number 13-02-20 in any written or electronic correspondence.
