Amity costs escalate - Town Hall Talk
Amity Building Project
I attended last week's meetings of the Amity Building Committee and the Amity Board of Education to hear the Budget Presentation for the school construction projects. Primarily due to higher than estimated costs for the modulars at the three schools and a higher than expected construction cost escalation rate, the project budget has been increased by over $5million from the original estimate of $68.5 to $74.4million.
Because design changes for the high school renovation/addition will bring higher state reimbursement the net project increase is $1.1million.
The originally projected tax impact is not expected to increase due to more favorable interest rates and restructuring the financial package to include more bonds and fewer short-term notes.
This will be brought to a referendum for voter approval later in the spring. I am working on arranging a date for a public informational meeting in Town Hall before the referendum to give Bethany residents an opportunity to hear the presentation and have their questions answered.
