At the regular meeting of the Finance committee of the Amity Board of Education on Monday night, board members deferred a vote on the annual budget 2017-18 that proposes a 1.95% increase pending review by the individual towns of Bethany, Orange and Woodbridge with whom they will meet this month.  Speaking on behalf of the Town of Bethany, First Selectman, Derrylyn Gorski thanked the board for improving their previous budget proposal, but said uncertainty at the state level has everyone very nervous about any increases right now.  “I appreciate what it takes to put a budget like this together but I’m looking for extreme caution and ways to further reduce costs.”  She said she looked forward to the meeting with the Amity Finance committee at the Bethany Board of Finance meeting on Tuesday, February 14.  Orange Board of Finance member, James Leahy, informed the Board that his members agreed to support the Amity budget if it came in at or below a 0.75% increase.  The Amity Finance committee is scheduled to meet with the Boards of Finance in Woodbridge on February 16 and Orange on February 27.
