NEW HAVEN — When the ball fell at midnight New Year’s Eve, Amelia Levy of Branford wasn’t lifting a glass of Champagne.

She was 58 seconds away from giving birth to Layla Rose Levy, the first baby born in 2018 at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, according to a hospital release.

Layla Rose, the first child of Amelia and Harrison Levy, weighed 8 pounds, 10 ounces, and was technically born at midnight, according to the official birth record, the hospital said. However, her actual birth time was 12:00:58 Monday.

According to the release, “Mother and baby are doing well and sent their wishes to all for a healthy and happy 2018.”

The hospital does not allow media interviews with the new parents, “to allow the family some much needed rest and privacy,” the release said.
