UPDATE: Milford police say two men are dead after a midday shooting in a neighborhood near Jonathan Law High School on Wednesday.
Police said the shootings took place about 12:46 p.m. Police were notified by 911 calls reporting gun shots fired on Hollywood Avenue. When police arrived, they found a 56-year-old man on the front lawn of 31 Hollywood Avenue, though police could not say if that house had any connection to the two men involved in the shooting.
The 56-year-old man was bleeding from a chest wound. Police have identified him as Michael Savignano of uncertain address.
While responders were giving aid to the injured man, police spotted another man running from the scene with a gun. They chased the man to 16 Midway Avenue, and Police Chief Keith Mello said the man fired a shot at police. No one was hit.
The 48-year-old then made it onto the roof of the house, where he shot and killed himself, police said. Police have identified the man as Vincent Edwards, 48, of 16 Midway Avenue.
Savignano later died at Bridgeport Hospital from wounds suffered in the shooting.
“This is an isolated incident to this residence and all involved parties are accounted for at this time,” police said in a statement released earlier in the day.
Mello could not say what the relationship was between the two men: He did say they have different last names so he doesn’t believe they are related.
Police are still interviewing neighbors and other people who lived at 16 Midway Avenue.
Police recovered a small caliber automatic weapon.
Mello said more information will be released when it becomes available.
Nearby Jonathan Law High School was put into lockdown during the incident as a precaution, police said.
