10 Amity Middle School Bethany 8th-graders compete
BETHANY >> Ten Amity Middle School Bethany Campus eighth-grade students participated in the New Haven chapter of the Math Counts Competition.
They were Arnva Paliwal, Kevin Lu, Tam Vu, Jonathan Wang, Josh Feuerstein, Kabir Khwaja, Alicia Gopal, Hannah Skiba, Peter Scully and Aamnah Malik.
They were among 130 students from 16 schools competing Feb. 4.
AMSB placed second in the team competition. The students in the team were Josh Feuerstein, Kevin Lu, Arnav Paliwal and Hannah Skiba.
In addition, five of students tied for fifth place in the overall competition: Josh Feuerstein, Alicia Gopal, Kevin Lu, Arnav Paliwal and Tam Vu.
Nine out of 10 of the students on the AMSB team placed in the top 25 percent of the chapter competition.
Three AMSB students were in the final countdown round, where the top eight out of all the students competing get called down to answer math questions head to head.
The four members of the team, plus Tam Vu, Alicia Gopal, Kabir Khwaja, Aamnah Malik and Peter Scully, will be in the state competition March 11 at the University of Hartford.
More students qualified for States from AMSB than any other school that competed.
