This week in Fort Bend soccer

One month ago the Austin High School girls soccer team scored a thrilling shootout victory over Clements to get an early leg up in the race for the District 23-5A championship. On Monday night the teams will meet again with the end of the season in sight.

Austin is riding a streak of 90 games in which it has not lost to a district opponent. Perhaps more importantly for the Lady Bulldogs, they have an opportunity to gain a stranglehold on the district title.

Austin (12-0-1) has a three-point lead with five games to play. If they beat Clements (11-0-2) Monday then Clements might have to give up on its district title hopes. If the Lady Rangers find a way to turn the table, however, the last four games of the regular season will be exciting.

While Austin and Clements appear destined for playoff berths, Travis and Elkins still have work to do. Travis has a three-point lead for fourth place. It travels to Elkins Monday night. Monday is the start of an important week for Travis. The Lady Tigers take on Austin Friday night.

Two boys teams - Clements and Kempner - have clinched playoff berths. Austin and Travis have solid holds on third and fourth but are not in the clear. Austin must take on Clements and Travis this week. Travis hosts fifth-place Elkins on Monday.
