SOCCER: Hightower girls win DeKaney Tournament

The opening weekend of the high school soccer season was a giant success for the Hightower Lady Canes. They scored 13 goals and did not give up any while winning three games at the Spring DeKaney Tournament.

Hightower got a pair of 3-0 victories over DeKaney and Houston Davis on Friday. The Lady Canes concluded the tournament with a 7-0 triumph over South Houston on Saturday.

Emma Biba led the way with five goals, and Paola Cabrera scored three goals.

liliana Leyva, Itzel Lopez, Brandi Cook, Gabriela Lopez and Ebube Nwadeie scored one goal apiece. Hightower opens district play against Kempner on Tuesday.

GIRLS ROUNDUP

The Woodlands Lady Highlander Invitational

Austin 5, College Park 0

Taylor Derr had three goals and one assist as Austin finished the tournament 2-0-1. Amber Zola had one goal and one assist, and Reagan Russell scored one goal. Eileen Saa added one assist.

Kempner 1, Clear Falls 0

Kelly O'Dwyer scored for Kempner, and Amani Nabulsi had the assist. Goalkeeper Ashleigh Estes recorded the shutout. O'Dwyer finished the tournament with four goals as Kempner went 2-1.

Clear Springs 2, Clements 0

Clements finished the tournament 1-2.

Spring Branch ISD Tournament

Dulles 5, Houston Reagan 0

Dulles 1, Cypress Ranch 1

Dulles advanced to the fifth-place game against Cypress Ranch with the win over Reagan on Saturday morning. Jenny Newman scored three goals, and Lena Rafeedie had one goal and one assist against Reagan. Courtney Ericson scored the other goal, and Krista Picciotti had one assist. The Lady Vikings lost a shootout to Cypress Ranch to place sixth. Newman scored against Cypress Ranch, and Rafeedie had the assist. Goalkeeper Dana Layne made two saves during the shootout.

Willis Kat Cup

Elkins 3, Bryan Rudder 0

Tatiana Rodriguez and Kim Isaacson scored goals for Elkins. The Lady Knights' third goal was a Rudder own goal. Elkins finished the tournament 2-0-1. The Lady Knights did not give up a goal.

BOYS ROUNDUP

Alief ISD Tournament

Kempner 2, Cypress Fairbanks 1

Anthony Baez scored his second goal in three games, and Mason Danna scored his first as Kempner finished the tournament with a 2-1 record. Rafel Villatoro and Travis Bogdan each had one assist for Kempner. All three goals were scored in the first half. Kempner goalkeeper Collin James saved a penalty kick in the first half.

Alief Taylor 3, Austin 1

Otney Crawford scored Austin's goal. Austin went 1-2 in the tournament.

Alief Elsik 4, Bush 1

Donovan Larios scored Bush's goal. Kevin Quintero had the assist. Bush finished the tournament 1-1-1.

Klein ISD Tournament

Strake Jesuit 1, Clements 0

Clements finished the tournament 1-1-1 after falling to the two-time defending Region III-5A champions.

Pearland/Friendswood Invitational

Hightower 4, Angleton 3

In the pool play finale, Christian Rover scored two goals to get Hightower to the championship game. Luis Gallegos had one goal and one assist. Andres Jasso scored one goal, and Purav Moradi had one assist.

The Woodlands KILT Cup

Sam Rayburn 2, Dulles 0

Dulles finished the tournament 0-3.
