SOCCER: Dulles, Kempner girls win big in tourney openers

The high school soccer season began on Thursday with tournaments around the Houston area. Here is a look at how Fort Bend ISD teams fared on opening day.

GIRLS ROUNDUP

SPRING BRANCH ISD TOURNAMENT

Dulles 6, Channelview 0

Jenny Newman scored three goals as Dulles advanced to the second round of the 16-team field. Breanna Keller had two goals and one assist, and Kristen Badora had one goal and two assists. Krista Picciotti had one goal and one asssit.

THE WOODLANDS LADY HIGHLANDER INVITATIONAL

Kempner 6, Spring 0

Jennifer Bell and Kelly O'Dwyer scored two goals apiece in the pool play opener. Denice Emokpae and Isabelle Wright each scored one goal.

Austin 1, Klein Oak 1

Eileen Saa scored for Austin, and Taylor Derr got the assist. Oak tied it in the final five minutes. Oak is ranked No. 14 in the ESPN Rise national rankings for winter soccer. The rankings are comprised of teams from eight states.

Round Rock McNeil 2, Clements 1

Sally Dillick scored Clements' goal, and Savannah LaRicci had the assist.

WILLIS TOURNAMENT

Elkins 1, HCYA 0

Tatiana Rodriguez scored for Elkins. Dani Breeding had the assist.

BOYS ROUNDUP

ALIEF ISD TOURNAMENT

Kempner 2, Bush 0

Anthony Baez scored the winner in the 17th minute. Running toward the goal, he kicked in Rafael Villatoro's corner kick. John Martinez scored in the 38th minute off a centering pass from Javier Pena.

Austin 2, Travis 0

Austin got the winner on a Travis own goal in the 55th minute. Lake Hood provided some insurance with a goal in the 85th minute.

KLEIN TOURNAMENT

Clements 2, Klein Collins 0

Amir Dodds scored two goals. Mitch Boullt and Tega Umaka each had one assist.

PEARLAND/FRIENDSWOOD INVITATIONAL

Hightower 3, Lamar Consolidated 1

Hightower led 2-0 at halftime. Andres Jasso, Purav Modi and Juan Arevalo each scored one goal for Hightower.

THE WOODLANDS KILT CUP

Clear Lake 3, Dulles 1

Jose Shabandar scored for Dulles. Don Dao had the assist.
