As items like strawberries and watermelons fade from produce selections and warm-weather farmers markets begin to close for the season, consider visiting one of Connecticut’s winter markets instead.

The winter markets still provide fresh and locally grown produce, with many of them now indoors and offering more winter and root vegetables due to the cold temperatures. In addition, many of the winter markets have seasonal craft goods in time for the holidays.

Here's your 2022 guide to winter farmers markets in Connecticut.

New Haven
CitySeed Winter Market

The Wooster Square CitySeed market will run until Dec. 17 at Conte West Hills Middle School. After this, the market will take a short break before CitySeed’s winter market opens up on Jan. 8 — also within Conte West Hills Middle School — and will run until Mar. 26

The winter market offers local produce, baked goods, dairy products and more. It will be open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Durham Winter Farmers Market

The Winter Farmers Market is coming soon to Durham. As of now, there is no definitive start date for the Durham winter market. The market’s Facebook page announced, “We are waiting for a CO for our new community center located at the former Korn Elementary School at 50 Picket Lane, across from the high school. Once we get that CO, we can have a market. The winter market will take place Saturdays from 10am-1pm.”

Stonington Winter Market

The Stonington Farmers Market heads inside for its winter rendition beginning mid-October and continues that way through the spring, running from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. The market is held at Velvet Mill in the back room closest to Meadow Avenue and has local winter produce as well as greenhouse-grown items that can be grown in any temperature. The Stonington Market also has craft vendors selling specialty holiday items.

City of Groton Winter Pop-Up Farmers Market

From December to May, the city of Groton will have six winter pop-up farmers market dates. Those interested can visit the pop-up at the Municipal Building at 295 Meridian Street on Dec. 11, Jan. 8, Feb. 12, Mar. 12, Apr. 9 and May 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
